Caring for Your Skin During the Summer

Your skin is the largest organ. Its seven layers protect every other part of your body. It helps regulate body temperature and is the first line of defense against germs. As a result, it has to be tough. However, because it is so exposed, it is susceptible to injuries.  Protecting it has to be a priority. During the summer, the sun can be harsh. It is especially crucial to care for your skin during these hot months.

Sunscreen

The first thing to remember is don’t leave the house without a good layer of sunscreen. Pay special attention to your arms, neck, ears and face as these are the most often exposed areas of your skin. The backs of your hands and the tops of your feet may also be exposed and prone to getting damaged by the UV rays of the sun. Sunscreen is one way to prevent skin cancer, which occurs at high rates.

Moisturizers

The summer is notorious for drying your skin out. This can have negative impacts, such as making the top layer brittle and more susceptible to breakage. When the top layer of your skin gets burned or breaks, bacteria may have an easier route inside your body. Keeping a good moisturizer on hand may help prevent dry skin. If you notice that some areas of your skin are sensitive or break out like your face, you may want to try hypoallergenic skin care products.

Keep It Covered

While it seems like a horrible idea, covering up before heading out to the sun is the best way to protect your skin. If you are sitting in the sun, wear UV protective shirts to help repel these harmful rays. Keep a hat on your head so your scalp is protected and your face shaded. Get light-weight clothes to keep you cool.

Summertime means fun in the sun, but doing so without thinking of your skin may result in painful and harmful burns. Care for your skin so that it can keep effectively protecting you for many years to come.
